Padre Island, TX
Named for Padre Nicholas Balli, who discovered it in the 1500’s, Padre Island has beaches that go on and on for more than 100 miles and is the world’s longest barrier island.
Minutes from downtown Corpus Christi , Padre Island is home to the Padre Island National Seashore. This protected National Park is 66 miles of natural seashore with a staff dedicated to protecting and releasing many Kemp Ripley’s Sea Turtles each year. Visitors are welcome to watch the release of hundreds of hatchlings each year. The many beaches of Padre Island allow beachgoers a glimpse of nature at its finest, with dunes, vegetation, shells, and driftwood, all in their natural state.
Don’t miss Malaquite Beach with its pavilions for picnics, surfing at J.P. Luby Youth Park, windsurfing at Bird Island Basin, the Grasslands Nature Trail, and fishing off Bob Hall Pier, which stretches 1200 feet into the Gulf.
