South Texas Coastal Bend Cities - Towns

Bishop Texas

Above: The fitness trail around Lake LaCour at City Park is a popular site for the 5K Run, held annually during Bishop’s Olde Tyme Faire.

The town of Bishop, a rural center rich in cotton and grain, was first settled in 1910 but has since become a center for the petroleum, plastics, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

The Bishop Plant, located on Business Highway 77, houses Celanese (chemicals), Ticona (plastics), BASF
(pharmaceuticals), and OXEA (chemicals).

City Park offers baseball and softball fields, a large covered pavilion, picnic and playground areas, fitness
trail, and birding (site #85 on the Central Texas Coast Birding Trail)…all newly improved thanks to a state
grant. Revitalizing historic Main Street is a future goal
