Palacios is a paradise for birders, hunters, fishermen and sailors offering four miles of Bayshore plus 3 birding sites within the city limits, numerous public boat launch ramps and fishing piers, a 1.5-mile lighted seawall walk, beautiful city parks, a 9-hole golf course, and municipal airport. The Port of Palacios is home to one of the largest shrimping fleets on the Gulf coast. Other attractions in and around Palacios include the Nature Conservancy of Texas’ Mad Island Marsh Preserve and the Texas State Marine Education Center, Palacios is
located on the LaSalle Odyssey Trail, Texas Independence Trail, Texas Settlement Region Trail, Matagorda County History and Heritage Trail and the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. Accommodations range from RV parks to luxurious historic bed and breakfasts, as well as numerous vacation homes.
