Where We’ve Been
Mustang Island’s beginnings included wild horses, Indians, Spanish explorers, pirates, and eventually, settlers to this primitive barrier island. Undergoing numerous changes, the once sleepy fishing village of Port Aransas continues its progression into one of the most popular coastal destinations in Texas.
Many families have made the beaches of Mustang Island a summer vacation tradition, spanning generations, bringing along a few new friends and family every year. These, along with the thousands of ‘Winter Texans’ that flock to its sandy shores from November through March, have enriched the feeling of camaraderie unique to this island community. Affectionately referred to as “Port A”, the term ‘extended family’ has formed new meaning as locals eagerly anticipate the return of guests from the north each winter.
