Oil Spill Pelican and Other Birds Released at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge

Rockport-Fulton, Texas (June 23, 2010) The public is invited to the next bird release, back into the wild, of Pelicans and other birds rehabilitated from the Gulf oil spill, this Sunday, June 27, at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. The public is encouraged to arrive sometime after 10am but before 12pm at the fishing pier and picnic area. There is a $3. per person or $5. per vehicle charge. Please register at the Visitor Center upon arrival.

The Aransas Wildlife Refuge is the host site for receiving the rehabilitated birds. “At the time of the release, the birds are so excited to enter the water after that long plane ride. It is as if the birds are all having a party!,” states Nancy Brown of the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

Pack a lunch, bring a lawn chair and head just 40 miles outside of Rockport-Fulton to the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge to welcome the birds to their new habitat.
