Yorktown Texas
Just Down the Road A-Ways
The oldest town in DeWitt County, Yorktown was settled by Captain John York in 1848 as a weigh station between the then bustling coastal seaport of Indianola and inland cities. Much of the area’s history is on display in Yorktown’s Historical Museum, the same building that was C. Eckhardt’s General Store in 1848. Yorktown today is an active rural community involved in ranching, agriculture and manufacturing. There’s a genuine small town atmosphere with the same qualities that the original pioneer settles instilled.
Yorktown offers hunting, birding, fishing, wildflowers and antiques.
Yorktown’s annual Western Days is always held the 3rd full weekend in October, featuring free family fun.
