Palacios, located on Tres Palacios Bay, is a
paradise for birders, hunters, fishermen and sailors.
The Port of Palacios hosts over 400 vessels in one of the
largest shrimping fleets on the Gulf coast. Other attractions in
and around Palacios include the Nature Conservancy of Texas' Mad
Island Marsh Preserve, Texas State Marine Education Center, The
1.5-mile lighted seawall, the Pavilion and fishing piers, a
9-hole golf course, South Texas Nuclear Operating Plant,
beautiful city parks, and a municipal airport with runways up to
5000 feet.
Rich in history, Palacios is located on the LaSalle Odyssey
Trail, Texas Independence Trail, Texas Settlement Region Trail
and Matagorda County History and Heritage Trail. It is also on
the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. Historical murals
depicting the Palacios heritage and wildlife adorn many
buildings around town.
