Freshwater Fishing in the Texas Coastal Bend
By Wilfred Korth

South Texas freshwater fishing

In the Texas Coastal Bend we are blessed to have a variety of freshwater opportunities on which to test our skills.  We have the Guadalupe, San Antonio, Frio, Nueces, Lavaca, and Navidad Rivers; the 18,256 acre Lake Corpus Christi; the 3,100 acre Coleto Creek Reservoir, the 9,727 acre Lake Texana, and the 25,670 acre Choke Canyon Reservoir.  The last three reservoirs being three of the last reservoirs built in Texas and all built with the intent of leaving as much fish structure in the now flooded reservoir bottoms as possible.

The predominant fish species in the above large reservoirs are Largemouth bass; White bass; Crappie; Blue, Channel & Flathead catfish; and Bluegill and redear sunfish.  Some truly record size fish have come out of these reservoirs.  Lake maps of these reservoirs are available at the respective reservoir park headquarters and/or the bait shops near the reservoirs. More detailed fishing maps are commercially available at most fishing tackle dealers in the Coastal Bend Region.

So if you are looking for some year round freshwater fishing opportunities consider visiting one or all of our Texas Coastal Bend reservoirs or river systems.
